Busy with the After-School Demo set but I’m gonna save some PayPal pennies and pick up a copy. Call me shallow, but it’s the cover art that made me do it.

  3. Hello!! Sounds really interesting.

Sadly, I’ve tried a lot of miniature manuals, but none seems to satisfy me at 100%… but the PHYSX systems looks really cool. Is there any rules preview, or demo, gameplay example or something to read before buy?

    Thanks beforehand!

    • Hello!! Sounds really interesting.

Glad you think so Vincente! I think I can safely say that you don’t have a game like this one your collection. πŸ™‚

I’m thinking there will be some battle reports up this by this weekend. If not, then I plan to do something myself just to give a little preview of some of the various mechanics in the game. But since you’re interested in the physics system, here’s a small example talking about how the collision system works that I shared on another forum:

Collisions are non-skill based impacts that occur between two or more units, obstacles, or objects. For each of these that is involved in the collision, you will roll a die based on its armor rating and perform an opposed roll. Die are assigned as follows for various armor ratings:

Light armor units and groups – d4
      Medium armor units – d6
      Heavy armor units – d8

Terrain elements are also assigned a die type for resolving collisions.
      Open ground – d4
      Difficult area terrain – d6
      Dangerous area terrain – d8
      Light object/obstacle – d4
      Medium object/obstacle – d6
      Heavy object/obstacle – d8

After rolling dice, you will compare the results.

      1. The unit with the lowest roll will take damage equal to the difference between its roll and the highest roll result, and both it and all other units involved in the collision are staggered [the unit with the highest roll is not staggered!].
      2. If there is a tie on the lowest result, then all the lowest units take damage.
      3. If there is a tie on the highest result, then those units are undamaged and not staggered.
      4. If all results are a tie, then no damage is done and no units are staggered.

A unit taking damage would have to make an energy expenditure equal to the damage caused by the collision or be removed from play.

So if a heavy battle suit [heavy armor] collided with with three infantry grunts [light armor], then you would roll a d8 and 3d4 and compare the results. Let’s say that the result on the d8 was a 7 and the d4 results were 1, 3, and 4. The d4 unit that rolled the 1 would have to expend 6 energy or be eliminated. Most players would almost definitely let the unit be removed from battle as the ‘energy pool’ is shared by the entire force and 6 energy is very steep penalty to pay. The remaining 2 grunts would be staggered from their current locations, and the heavy battle suit would remain where the collision occurred.

  4. Got the rules, no time to play or read right now.
I’m afraid I’m gonna need some of the latest Dark Age miniatures to play your game.
